Victoria Volway - Victoria is an AMAZING nurse who I had the honor of working alongside for 5.5 years in the trenches of the Emergency Department. Victoria goes above and beyond to care for every single one of her patients and is often working triage where she never takes a break. The ER is such a challenging environment to work in because everyone is having a terrible day. No one wants to wait, but the reality is, when the ER volume greatly exceeds the capacity, there isn’t much we can do. Even though it gets really hard to hear “how much longer,” “he got here after me and gets to go back first?!” “My pain is a thousand out of 10,” “I need a doctor!!!” over and over and over again, and having absolutely zero control over when that patient will get seen by a provider when all the rooms (and hall spots, and third and fourth waiting rooms, and anywhere we can possibly find to put patients) are full, Victoria makes the absolute most of it. She continues to put a smile on her face, grab extra warm blankets, offer updates and reassurance, and do whatever she can to make everyone feel important, even when they feel the furthest from it. She is a STELLAR nurse and an incredible person who always puts everyone else above herself. She deserves to be celebrated!!
